The Cross Scythes

The Cross Scythes is a family run inn located where the Derbyshire peak district meets the city of Sheffield. Established as a coaching inn by a local blacksmith, “The Cross” has been a welcome stop-off for travellers since around 1820.

Our aim at The Cross Scythes is to provide a warm and friendly welcome whether you are choosing to stay B&B in one of our superbly furnished bedrooms, dine in our restaurant or just calling in for a drink or a snack.

We have a fine selection of real ales that usually includes Charles Wells Bombadier, Black Sheep Bitter and Deuchars IPA. The bar is open daily from 12.00am till Midnight (1.ooam on Friday and Saturday nights). We also have a large beer garden with seating for approx 60 people and a large car park. In addition, the Cross Scythes hosts Live Music Sunday evenings, a musical jam on Thursdays, and weekly quizzes on Wednesdays. The Cross Scythes is fast becoming the local leader in bookings for private functions, as groups of 10 to 100 find our attractive facility most amenable.

Our location is ideal and within 15 - 20 minutes you can be in the centre of Sheffield or enjoying the Peak District tourist attractions of Chatsworth House, Bakewell, and the Hope Valley. There are also many lovely walks across the moors and woods from our doorstep towards Hathersage, Holmesfield or Baslow, please ask for details of routes.

We hope you enjoy your visit to The Cross Scythes and the surrounding area.
